Environmental policy
Hays Pharma has made a strong commitment not to lose sight of the environmental impact it has on the world around it. This is a policy that has been fully embraced and supported by both the company and its employees.
We continously look at ways to minimise the impact that we have on the environment, from the need for air travel to waste management. Some of our initiatives are listed below:
Our electricity is now provided by http://www.ecotricity.co.uk who take the money we spend on electricity and invest it in clean forms of power like wind energy. What's more, they are the only green electricity company actually building these new renewable energy sources. This year alone they invested £25 million in wind energy.
All of our office waste (except organic matter!) is recycled through Viridor Ltd The business does not have any company cars, all employees are encouraged to use public transport wherever possible. The company is also supportive of cyclists, providing safe storage for bikes inside the office.
All air travel is questioned; unfortunately it is often unavoidable in a business with operations throughout the world. In order to reduce flights, conference calling is used wherever possible and we are implementing video conferencing to try and further reduce this.
All printed marketing materials, business cards and letterheads are produced on paper manufactured using Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF) wood free pulp sourced from sustainable forests.
Throughout the business most staff operate from open plan offices, this reduces the square footage of offices, reducing the energy needed. Our layouts are designed to make operations efficient and encourage strong team development.
Hays Plc are working with Future Forests on their E Shareholder project. A tree will be planted for every shareholder who signs up, via www.shareview.co.uk, to receive all their future communications from Hays electronically. This includes future annual report and accounts and notice of meetings. This reduces the environmental impact and reduces the Company's costs.
We believe that these and other initiatives make good commercial sense as well as being environmentally sound. Hays Pharma's long term commitment to the environment means it continually evaluates new initiatives aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions by a further 25% in the next 12 months.
