Our client is a global healthcare marketing and communications agency serving clients in 53 offices across 33 countries. They provide a bundle of services to the healthcare industry including clinical trial recruitment, medical education, brand development, professional communications, consumer promotion/DTC, public relations, global integration and relationship marketing. Primary function Ensuring the quality of writing and editing of medical education materials
Secondary function Client and key opinion leader/author liaison
You will work across the account teams, liaising closely with the Senior/Account Directors. The work will cover all aspects of medical education and communication handled by Medical Education for pharmaceutical clients. You will report to the MD and form part of the Management Team. This function is intended to be a mix of supervision/training/quality control and active writing/editing. The proportion of each will vary over time.
Main responsibilities
Staff development
Working with the Group Editorial Director to develop the writing and editing skills of junior writer(s) and and other staff as appropriate
Ensure their work meets quality standards
Line management of specific personnel
Allocation and QC function
Working with the Group Editorial Director to develop and implement processes to ensure the following
High quality briefs are prepared for all medical writing projects;
Monitor the quality of work delivered by writers on a regular basis to ensure value for money
Monitor the allocation of projects to writers to ensure best use of skills
Editorial/writing
Be aware of the commercial strategy for the accounts
Develop an understanding of current issues relating to allocated therapy areas; the key journals and conferences
Supervise the writing and/or editing of projects such as clinical papers, slide kits, abstracts, posters etc.
Write or edit the work directly as appropriate
Provide scientific input to ensure that proposals are specific and achievable
Oversee the development of outlines for writing tasks based on the brief agreed with the client
Once the outline is agreed with the client, either
o be responsible for developing the item from outline to completion; or
o identify a suitable writer (with input from the account team) and ensure they are briefed using the outline
Randomly check the quality of work provided by freelance writers
Track time spent on projects (in house and external hours) and monitor costs in accordance with the agreed budget to ensure that profitability targets are met.
Client Liaison
Where necessary, liaise directly with the client
Respond promptly to client requests, involving fellow team members as necessary
Attend client meetings, scientific conferences or stand-alone meetings as required
Professional Relations
Build a good knowledge of opinion leader profiles on specific accounts
Liaise with opinion leaders to progress projects if required
Develop relationships with external lead authors and key opinion leaders on specific accounts
Communication
Ensure projects are implemented according to quality standards, project deadlines and measurable objectives
Ensure projects are budgeted appropriately by the account teams and delivered to budget
Understand Medical Education's value proposition and role within the company
Contribute to the Management Team as required
New Business
Contribute to brainstorm meetings as required, eg new business, programme planning and proposal writing
