Drugmaker King Pharmaceuticals is set to present research to try and prove the safety and effectiveness of its latest painkilling drugs.

Data which supports the safety of Acurox and Embeda will be presented at this week's 71st annual meeting of the College on Problems of Drug Dependence.

Eric Carter, chief science officer of King Pharmaceuticals, said: "We anticipate that upon approval Acurox and Embeda will offer new therapeutic tools for physicians treating people living with pain."

He added that the company expects the painkillers to become popular with doctors who are trying to offer effective pain medicines to patients who have just gone through major surgery.

Attendees at the meeting will hear about the phase three trials which were conducted to prove the safety of the drugs and show they are effective forms of pain relief.

In other King Pharmaceutical news, the company has recently recorded a first quarter loss after struggling with generic competition for one of its biggest selling drugs Altace.
