Roche set to unveil new rheumatism drug

05 Jun 2009

Clinical Research

Swiss pharmaceutical giant Roche is preparing to reveal results from a detailed study into joints and connective tissue at one of the world's biggest rheumatism conferences.

Roche's study showed that reducing the number of cytokines, molecules that are involved in cell communication, relieved inflammation of the joints and other symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis.

The research, which focused on the drug Actemra, included more than 4,000 patients from 41 countries around the globe.

Roche will present the findings at the 10th Annual Congress of the European League Against Rheumatism, which will take place on June 10th to the 13th in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Planned events include an oral study by lead investigator Joel Kremer and a poster presentation by Josef Smolen Professor of medicine at the University Clinic for Internal Medicine in Vienna, Austria.

The pharmaceutical company recently revealed research which showed that Actemra was effective at reducing joint damage in a one-year study published last month.

Nice to know that Roche has moved to France. I am sure all of those working in Basel Switzerland are waking up reading your article and wondering when they are moving to France.
