Medical Affairs

Roche has invested in a program which is designed to help diabetes health workers engage and motivate their patients.

The coaching will be added to the company's Behaviour Change Through Patient Engagement Program and Roche said the coaching is specifically designed to improve communication between diabetes patients and health workers.

Luc Vierstraete, vice president and general manager of Roche diabetes care in North America, said: "As the world leader in diabetes diagnostics, we truly appreciate the efforts of educators and other healthcare professionals, who help their patients lead healthier lifestyles."

He added that the coaches will be on the front line in the fight against diabetes and the program is meant to fine tune their patient engagement skills.

Professionals who have been on the course said that the training weekend was worthwhile and helped their interaction with diabetes patients.

AstraZeneca and Bristol-Myers Squibb recently collaborated on the diabetes drug Onglyza, which was backed by the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use in Europe.
