Bayer CropScience's herbicide Soberan 'set for Brazil'

09 Jul 2008

Bayer CropScience says its new corn herbicide Soberan can be used in Brazil after an active ingredient was granted approval.

It reports tembotrione is a "leaf-active substance that eliminates the protection of chlorophyll against UV light in weeds", which is particularly suited to corn plants.

The ingredient is already on the market in Hungary, Austria, Serbia and the US under the brand-name Laudis, the company states.

Christophe Dumont, head of the firm's Strategic Business Unit Herbicides, comments that Brazil is an important market.

He says: "The launch of Soberan is intended to further expand our leading position as a supplier of crop protection products."

Bayer last week revealed its active ingredient spirotetramat has been granted regulatory approval in the US and Canada.

It added spirotetramat will be marketed worldwide under the brand-name Movento, with launch of the new insecticide planned for Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Australia, New Zealand, Turkey, Africa, the Netherlands and Austria over the remainder of this year and into 2009.
