Schering-Plough reports positive phase-three study data

11 Jul 2008

Clinical Research

Schering-Plough's corifollitropin alfa achieved its primary endpoints in a phase-three trial, the company said at the 24th annual meeting of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology in Barcelona.

Corifollitropin alfa is a sustained follicle stimulant, which means it is aimed at the development of multiple follicles and pregnancy in women, the company reported.

Schering-Plough stated the primary endpoint of the study was ongoing pregnancy at week-ten and beyond after embryo transfer.

It said the study showed the ongoing pregnancy rate with 150 mcg corifollitropin alfa was "similar to that achieved in patients receiving 200 IU recombinant FSH (follitropin beta)".

The prevalence of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome was similar in each group, the company added.

Schering-Plough was recently in the news, as it announced with Merck the withdrawal of the new drug application for the loratadine/montelukast combination tablet as well as the termination of their joint respiratory venture.

However, the companies maintained the action had no effect on their cholesterol joint venture.
