Pfizer to present Alzheimer's research

15 Jul 2008

Clinical Research

Pfizer says it is to showcase "two promising investigational therapies" from its Alzheimer's disease research pipeline at an upcoming conference on the disease.

It will present nine abstracts from its research portfolio at the Alzheimer's Association International Conference on Alzheimer's disease (ICAD), which is to take place in Chicago from July 26th to 31st.

The promising investigational therapies are in the early stages of development, the company adds.

Dr Liam Ratcliffe, senior vice-president and development head for Pfizer Neuroscience, says: "With the expected huge increase in the incidence of Alzheimer's disease worldwide in the next 25 years, Pfizer's neuroscience team has made this devastating illness our highest priority."

He comments that they are working on new medicines aimed at improving memory, while also looking into approaches for gaining earlier diagnoses.

Last week, Pfizer said it will comply fully with the revised Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America code of practice governing interactions with healthcare professionals, which comes into force at the start of next year.
