    Shire delivers 'strong' quarter

    01 Aug 2008

Shire has reported "strong" financial results for the second quarter of the year.

The pharmaceutical firm said product sales were up by 40 per cent on the same period last year.

Furthermore, its total revenues for the quarter, at $776 million (£393 million), represented an increase of 35 per cent.

Chief executive officer Angus Russell welcomed the results, saying that the firm is continuing to expand its business in speciality pharmaceuticals and is showing strong levels of growth.

He added: "Shire is in line to deliver another set of excellent results for 2008 and is upgrading its full-year guidance for total revenue growth from the mid to high-teens to at least 20 per cent."

Meanwhile, the company has just announced the appointment of Tatjana May as chair of its corporate responsibility committee with immediate effect.

Currently general counsel, company secretary and executive vice-president of global legal affairs, Ms May has been with Shire since 2001.
