Ethicon Endo-Surgery 'to acquire SurgRX'
12 Aug 2008
Ethicon Endo-Surgery, a Johnson & Johnson company, has said it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire SurgRX.
The terms of the deal have not been disclosed and it is subject to the firms being given customary clearances under the relevant acts.
SurgRX is the developer of the bipolar tissue sealing system used in EnSeal devices and Ethicon Endo-Surgery has stated that the arrangement will complement its Harmonica ultrasonic technology.
Rodney Perkins, chairman of the board of directors at SurgRx, commented: "The acquisition has the potential to expand the global availability of the EnSeal product line."
President and chief executive officer at the firm Dave Clapper added: "We are looking forward to joining forces with Ethicon Endo-Surgery to offer these complementary technologies to even more patients worldwide."
Johnson & Johnson last month announced it had seen an 8.7 per cent increase in sales during the second quarter of the year.
It revealed they had reached $16.5 billion (£8.7 billion) for the three-month period.
