Roche sells four products to Meda
18 Aug 2008
Roche has sold four of its pharmaceutical products to Swedish firm Meda for 120 million euros (£95 million).
Meda has acquired the worldwide product rights for Marcoumar, Torem, Tilcotil and Aurorix.
The Swiss drugs giant has said that the transaction is expected to be finalised by late this year and is subject to standard closing conditions.
It added that the total value of sales for the four products represents 0.3 per cent of sales in the company's pharmaceuticals division.
Roche stated that the move underlines its strategy of focusing on a core of innovative medicines and diagnostic products which have "significant potential for high value creation, both for the patients and the company".
The firm recently announced that the Arthritis Advisory Committee of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has voted to recommend the approval of Actemra.
According to Roche, there was a ten to one vote in favour of the recommendation for the rheumatoid arthritis treatment - and the company now awaits a licensing decision from the FDA.
