Roche voices support for earthquake-hit village
18 Aug 2008
Roche has said it is supporting the rebuilding of Chocos - a village in Peru which was heavily affected by an earthquake in August 2007.
The reconstruction project is being funded by Roche and Re&Act, which is the Roche Employee Action and Charity Trust.
According to the Swiss drugs giant, it supported the construction of a dam, which will aid the village's recovery, and residents have been restoring the local secondary school and a community centre.
Miguel-Angel Marco, country manager of Roche Diagnostics, commented: "Our aims are to provide material assistance, to work with the inhabitants of Chocos to rebuild the village, to ensure people get their homes back and to improve their future perspectives."
He stated that his company has a history of assisting in humanitarian causes together with local organisations.
Meanwhile, Roche has just announced that it is to sell four products to the Swedish firm Meda.
The worldwide product rights for Marcoumar, Torem, Tilcotil and Aurorix are being transferred for a total amount of 120 million euros (£95 million).
