Bayer Schering Pharma has entered into a research collaboration with the National University of Singapore (NUS).

The initial collaboration will focus on three joint projects in the field of oncology.

Overall, the firm states it is committed to investing up to ten million euros (£8 million) in the area of research and development in Singapore over the next five to eight years, in partnership with universities, hospitals, research institutes and companies.

Commenting on the new partnership, the NUS dean of medical school Professor John Wong said: "We are hopeful that our joint efforts will translate into discoveries to innovation therapies that will benefit Singaporeans and patients around the world."

Professor Andreas Busch, head of global drug discovery and member of the board of Bayer Schering Pharma, suggested that the company's investment in research in Asia highlights its commitment to the development of new cancer drugs.

Meanwhile Bayer has again been included in the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index - a ranking system which assesses firms' strategies on climate protection and addressing climate change.
