Amgen makes appointment to board

Amgen has appointed Francois de Carbonnel to its board of directors.
Mr de Carbonnel, who is a consultant and corporate financial advisor, will serve as a member of the Audit and Governance and Nominating committees of the board.
The appointment takes the number of Amgen board members to 12.
Mr de Carbonnel is also chairman of the board of international multimedia company Thomson, as well as a member of the boards of Pages Jaunes, Quilvest, Ecofin Global Utilities Hedge Fund and Ecofin North America Utilities Hedge Fund.
According to Amgen, he has previously had senior roles with Citigroup in London and Midial in Paris.
Originally founded in 1980, Amgen is now a Fortune 500 company which focuses on the development of treatments for anaemia, rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune diseases.
The company claimed a workforce of more than 20,000 in 2006, based across the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Australia and Asia.
