    Lilly appoints Oberhelman to board

    21 Oct 2008

Eli Lilly has announced the appointment of Douglas Oberhelman to its board of directors.

He will serve on the board's audit and finance committees with effect from December 1st.

The firm stated that Mr Oberhelman - currently group president of Caterpillar and a member of its executive office - will stand for election by Lilly's shareholders at its annual general meeting in April next year.

"Doug has demonstrated strong leadership in his 33 years with Caterpillar, a global leader in the manufacturing and sales of industrial machinery and equipment," commented Lilly chairman Sidney Taurel.

John Lechleiter, Lilly president and chief executive officer, added that Mr Oberhelman's "experiences will directly support several key aspects of our strategy".

Meanwhile Eli Lilly and Daiichi Sankyo have confirmed that they are in continuing discussions with the US Food and Drug Administration regarding the new drug application for prasugrel.

The companies said they were issuing their statement in response to media speculation concerning the status of the application made for the acute coronary syndrome treatment - with both firms confirming that to date they have not been notified of any decision.
