Bayer Technology Services has entered into a collaboration with fellow German firm Sartorius Stedim Biotech.
The companies have signed an exclusive cooperation agreement for the manufacture and worldwide marketing of UVivatec products.
UVivatec technology, Bayer said, is used for the inactivation of viruses in biopharmaceuticals through UV irradiation.
"By cooperating with Bayer Technology Services, we have now added an innovative, yet proven, technology to our portfolio, which can help significantly increase process reliability and economy in the production of many pharmaceuticals," commented Reinhard Vogt, executive vice-president of Sartorius Stedim Biotech.
Dr Klaus Sommer, head of business management and senior vice-president of Bayer Technology Services, added that the collaboration illustrates his firm's commitment to deploy novel technologies to the benefit of its customers.
Meanwhile, Bayer MaterialScience has commenced production at its new diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI) facility in Shanghai.
The firm has said that the complex is the largest MDI facility of its kind in the world.
