Pfizer reports 'exciting' Selzentry results

27 Oct 2008

Clinical Research

Pfizer has reported positive data from a clinical trial of Selzentry as a potential HIV therapy.

The drugs giant said there was a 68 per cent rate of virologic suppression to undetectable levels at week 48 in previously untreated patients.

Results were based on the use of Selzentry in combination with Combivir and came from a new enhanced sensitivity test known as the Trofile assay.

Professor Michael Saag, who presented the results, referred to the data as "exciting".

"These findings are important for patients and physicians and offer guidance for clinical practice with the only version of Trofile currently available," he commented.

Meanwhile Pfizer has said it is to present data at the 2008 American College of Rheumatology Scientific Meeting in San Francisco on three investigational compounds which the company believes are potential new mechanisms for targeting pain and inflammation.

The information will relate to tanezumab, a molecule designed to target nerve growth factor; CP-690,550, which suppresses immune-related inflammatory response; and esreboxetine, a highly-selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor.
