Roche holds global charity walks
01 Dec 2008
Employees of Swiss pharmaceutical giant Roche are taking place in walks around the world in aid of a childrens charity.
Money raised by staff who take part will go towards children's centres in Malawi as well as facilities for children in need in their own countries.
Under the scheme, all funds raised by employees are matched by the company.
Chief executive officer Severin Schwan acknowledged that his firm is in a "unique position" in being able to contribute to the improvement of people's lives.
He continued: "I will be participating in the Children's Walk this year and will be joined by many colleagues to help children in need."
Roche was recently in the news as it signed a definitive agreement to acquire Memory Pharmaceuticals in an all-cash transaction of approximately $50 million (£33 million).
Roche chief executive officer William Burns stated that the innovative work of Memory's scientists will be fully integrated into his firm's research and development portfolio.
