Bayer donates 250,000 euros to haemophilia charity

    20 Apr 2009

Bayer HealthCare has pledged 250,000 euros (£222,000) to the World Federation of Haemophilia (WHF) as part of its annual contribution to support the organisation's treatment, care and education initiatives.

The company made the donation to mark the 20th anniversary of World Haemophilia Day and its employees around the world participated in activities to support the yearly event by raising awareness of the condition and other bleeding disorders.

"We at Bayer are passionate about improving the lives of all those touched by haemophilia, from patients and their families to caregivers and members of the healthcare community," said Michael Mathews, vice president and therapeutic area head of haematology at the company.

Bayer's previous contributions have gone towards the Global Alliance for Progress initiative to increase the proper diagnosis and treatment of the disorder, as well as the International Haemophilia Nursing Fellowship Program, which provides education and training to nurses in developing countries.

In related news, Merck donated exclusive, royalty-free rights to an investigational candidate being studied as a treatment for malaria to charity last month.
