Mylan is celebrating the approval of its generic prostate cancer drug after the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) gave the tablets the all clear.
The Bicalutamide Tablet is the generic version of AstraZeneca's prostate cancer treatment, Casodex, and was approved after an Abbreviated New Drug Application was submitted to the FDA.
Mylan stated: "Mylan Inc, which provides products to customers in more than 140 countries and territories, ranks among the leading diversified generics and specialty pharmaceutical companies in the world."
According to the medical services provider IMS Health, the AstraZeneca version of the drug recorded total sales of $322 million (£199 million) in the last 12 months and Mylan confirmed it is going to start shipping the treatment immediately.
IMS also said that the company has around 118 outstanding applications with the FDA which could be worth $82.8 billion in annual brand sales.
The FDA has recently approved Mylan's sleeping therapy Temazepam, which is the generic version of Mallinckrodt's Restoril treatment.
