Mylan reaches Femara settlement with Novartis

    03 Dec 2008

Mylan has entered into a settlement with Novartis over its generic version of the latter's Femara drug, which is used in the treatment of breast cancer.

Under the terms of the agreement, Mylan is given a patent licence to market the generic product - Letrozole Tablets 2.5 milligrams (mg) - prior to the expiration of the relevant US patent for the Novartis medicine.

The deal is subject to review by the US department of justice and the federal trade commission.

"We are very pleased to have reached this agreement, which demonstrates our ability to once again bring to market high-quality, affordable medications for the patients who need them the most," commented Robert Coury, vice-chairman and chief executive officer of Mylan.

Meanwhile Mylan has confirmed it has been sued by Cephalon, Eurand and Anesta AG.

The legal action relates to the filing of an abbreviated new drug application for Cyclobenzaprine Hydrochloride Extended-release Capsules 15 mg and 30 mg, the generic version of Amrix Capsules.
