Shire and GSK to co-promote ADHD drug in US

Shire and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) have signed a co-promotion deal aiming to double the reach of current sales effort for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) drug Vyvanse.
More than 600 of GSK's sales representatives will market the drug for adults with ADHD to paediatricians and psychiatrists in the US, to add to almost 600 Shire employees selling the medication.
The three-year agreement covers the US and the UK-based firm's staff expect to start promoting Vyvanse in May.
"GSK has been active in discovering and developing medicines to treat psychiatric disorders for decades, and neuroscience is one of the company's key therapeutic categories," says Deirdre Connelly, president of the firm's North American pharmaceuticals division.
She adds that the enterprise's sales representatives are "well positioned" to deliver information about the treatment of ADHD in adults.
Recently, Shire acquired the worldwide rights to ADHD drug Equasym, excluding the USA, Canada and Barbados, as part of its aim to expand into the European market for this condition.
